The contract was settled over coffee in Madrid a fortnight ago, her terms in every clause, her signature with a flourish.

Tonight was the test shoot: the mirrored dressing room of an old Madrid theatre, gold frames, bulb lights, a red velvet chaise and every reflection of her at once. He shot for an hour.
